Idea Napkin No. 2
My name is Courtney Meyer and I am a sophomore at the
University of Florida studying Criminology and Business. I am an extremely
active individual with a love of swimming, wakeboarding, and snowboarding. I
love helping people further their love of sports and activities; that is why I
want to pursue my “Snack Pack” invention. I want people to be able to train
harder and longer so they can meet their desired goals.
The product I am offering is a little something called a Snack
Pack. The Snack Pack is a small waterproof pouch that easily attaches to a
water bottle, or sports bag that allows the athlete to quickly and efficiently
access a small amount of food of their choice (energy chews, granola, crackers,
etc.) when they are hungry.
I am targeting people of any age and any gender who are
hard-working athletes. The key is to have someone that trains hard enough and
long enough that a small amount of food would actually benefit the person
during their workout. This is why I am targeting swimmers. Swimmers train
vigorously for up to 6 hours a day.
Athletes will buy the Snack Pack because it will help them
reach their training goals faster than they would have without the product. The
small amount of food during the workout will help the athlete train harder and
longer so that they can reach their goals faster than others.
What I have that no one else has is experience. I swam for
11 years. I know what it’s like to train on an empty stomach…it sucks. All you
want to do is quit and go eat. If had had a snack I would have been able to
combat the hunger and continue swimming harder. I can personally relate to these hungry
athletes. But have no fear, the Snack Pack is here.
Do
these elements fit together?
I believe my experience
fits perfectly with my product. I understand what these athletes are going
through and I know how to help. I acknowledge the fact that every athlete is
different and therefore have different needs. Some athletes may not benefit
from a snack, that’s okay, there are still many athletes that will benefit from
my product; I was definitely one of those people that would have benefited.
The weakest aspect of my product is the simple fact that not everyone would
like a snack during a workout, but hey, they say that 20 percent of the people
will be all of your sales!
Feedback
memo: 5 things that the feedback helped me on…
1)
Highlighting the fact that the product is
waterproof
2)
Clarify how easy the product is to use
3)
Acknowledge the fact that some swimmers may
be hindered, it’s all about the preferences of each athlete
4)
Mentioning what kind of snack could be put
in the pouch
5)
Highlighting the fact that the product
attaches to a water bottle
Hey Courtney, I think you had a really unique idea. I myself was a swimmer in high school and I definitely understand the struggle of getting hungry during practice. I think that your idea could be a really useful one. However, the demographic might be kind of small. I know that you didn't specify that it was for swimmers only, but it sort of seemed like you were implying it. Next time, I would try to explain how it could benefit other types of athletes as well. ReplyDeleteHey Courtney, great post! However, how is this different from any regular package to put snacks in? Also how does it attack to a water bottle, won't that alter the balance of the bottle and it won't be able to stand properly? I think the idea is good I am just unable to imagine how it would work and what aspects would make it valuable enough to not just settle with a ziploc bag or a tupperware container. ReplyDeleteHello Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI think you have come up with a pretty good idea. My daughter and I went rock climbing last night and neither of us had dinner before we started climbing. It did not take long to burn through any energy that we had in our bodies. It sounds like your snack packs are small enough to keep on you so you would be able to get some quick energy when needed. I am an avid surfer and think that product would be great for surfers. Surfers need to Stay hydrated and need lots of energy.
