Week 6- Interviewing Customers No. 3

1) Interview Strategy: I am going to ask questions to get to the root of my product. I am going to see if people would want a snack part way through a workout and if so, why? My product is called a "snack pack". It is a small waterproof pouch that would attach to a water bottle that would hold a small snack for when one gets hungry during a workout. I chose to interview athletes with a focus on swimmers. I interviewed people outside my apartment gym and at the O'Connell center.
2) 5 Interviews: See below!
3) Reflection: Once again I realized how hard interviewing is. I am still not very good at asking the right questions to get the information I need. I also learned that there is not a huge demand for a snack during a workout. A little than less than half of the people I interviewed over the 3 rounds said that a snack would not help them during a workout. This product may not be something I should pursue.

Here are the interviews, enjoy!

  1. I love this idea. I am an athlete and I can definitely see how important something like this could be. I thought you got great feedback and that will help you in determining if this is something that you would want to do. Great job and best of luck this semester!

  2. Hi Courtney! Personally, I never really have a snack while I'm exercising or at the gym (though I wouldn't really consider myself an athlete). However, I think your idea would be useful for when I'm going to class! During a long lecture it can be really hard to focus when you know you're hungry. Sometimes I'll put a snack in my backpack, but it'll get crushed. Attaching it to my water bottle and putting the water bottle in an outside pocket would solve this. Additionally, I might use this product to hold my keys/cards when I'm out on a run. Maybe if you keep the same product but change the use you could get better feedback!

  3. Hi,

Personally I think that a snack mid work out would hurt me more than it would help just because thats how my body works. For example, I use to do year round swimming for 11 years and was definitely hungry all the time because of it but if I were to eat during practice I think it would have made me nauseous and unable to perform my best. However, I do have friends who I workout with that would very much benefit from a snack because it would refuel them and give them more energy to finish what they started. I think you did a good job with your interviews and here's a link to mine if you want to check it out. http://wrenmoriah.blogspot.com/2016/02/customer-interview-no-3.html

  4. Hey Courtney,
Although your feedback wasn't as enthusiastic, I believe it's still a great idea. When I I play soccer or go for long runs, I always try to bring the least amount of items possible. I always find myself needing to take with me my wallet, phone, water bottle, keys and either a banana or a granola/protein bar. And although I usually leave them in a bag, I always bring my water bottle along with me. I think your product would be great for long runs on trails or maybe even for hikers. I believe you can easily transform this idea into a product for hikers, where carrying a snack is always a must. I agree that you can work on coming up with a better pool of questions to ask customers, but that was the toughest part of the assignment for me as well. I think you did great and came up with a great idea!
